Walt Barefoot

President

Walt Barefoot is an attorney with McAngus, Goudelock & Courie. His practice focuses on workers’ compensation defense. Having focused on workers' compensation defense since 1991, Walt has experience defending carriers and employers in South Carolina, and works with all types of claims. He regularly tries cases before the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission, and has also tried cases before the South Carolina Court of Appeals. Walt works closely with his clients to provide the best and most efficient service possible. Walt graduated from Wofford and received his JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Kay Kiser

Vice President

​

Kay Kiser has over 20 years in the workers comp arena. She previously worked as an Account Executive with The Directions Group, an EK Health Services Company. The Directions Group is a leading national managed care company specializing in nurse case management, UR and bill review, MSA'S, vocational rehabilitation, vocational litigation and consulting and life care planning. She is a graduate of USC- Coastal Carolina and holds a BS in Business Administration and Finance.

Megan Morgan

Secretary 

​

​Megan Morgan is a National Account Manager for Lemieux & Associates, a national private investigative agency.  We offer a multitude of services under the surveillance umbrella such as clinic inspections, medical checks, hospital/doctor sweeps, activity checks, manned/unmanned surveillance, etc.  Megan is a graduate of Clemson University.  She has been in the workers compensation/risk management industry since 2014.

Will Fletcher

Treasurer

​

Will Fletcher has been with UPS for 24 years and is currently a Risk Manager for nine states covering the Southeast Region.  His responsibilities include managing high complexity claims addressing volatile law changes, involved interest groups, and high rates of compensation.  He also works to reduce open claim inventory, ensure effective management of employee treatment in work related injuries, and reducing overall costs.  Will has a BA in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Clemson University.  He shares two children, Emerson and Levi, with his wife Jamie.

Mike Chase

Legal Advisor

Mike Chase is a shareholder and 28 year member of the nationally recognized Workplace Law Group at Turner Padget, providing practical counsel to businesses across the state. Chase helps lead Turner Padget's workers' compensation defense practice. His primary role is defending workers' compensation claims, representing employers, carriers and self-insured clients throughout SC. Mike works closely with the Firm's employment law specialists where Workers Compensation and Employment Law issues overlap. Devoting his practice to workers' compensation defense and mediation, Mike is approved panel counsel for most workers' compensation carriers and TPA's conducting business in South Carolina. His current client focus is with large accounts, while simultaneously managing a volume of work for carriers, TPA's and self-insured employers. His clients include hospital systems, national big box stores, power companies, restaurant chains, package delivery services, produce processors, manufacturers, regional HVAC contractor/service providers, telecommunications providers, grocery store chains, trucking and transportation companies, distribution facilities, retail outlets, and construction firms.

David Benenhaley

​

David Benenhaley is senior safety specialist at Santee Cooper Power. He is the past president of the South Carolina chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and has served on the board of directors of the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Educational Association. David has

more than 25 years of experience managing and monitoring safety programs, company policies and

procedures. Additionally , David oversees all workers compensation claims and investigations.

Lara Browne

​

Lara Browne has served as Legal Counsel for Roper St. Francis Healthcare since 2020. As Legal Counsel for Roper St. Francis Healthcare, Ms. Browne manages and oversees the entire workers’ compensation program, provides training and education on workplace safety and accident prevention, and handles legal defense on behalf of the organization. Ms. Browne received her undergraduate degree at the Pennsylvania State University, and her Juris Doctorate degree at the Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since relocating to SC in 2013, Ms. Browne has primarily practiced in the area of workers’ compensation defense.  She spent several years working for a large defense firm, where she represented employers and carriers throughout the Lowcountry.

Janeen Cantillion
 

Janeen Cantillion is a Regional Sales Executive with Carlisle Medical. She has many years of experience working in the workers’ compensation community.  Prior to Carlisle, Janeen was a Territorial Marketing Manager for a regional TPA and prior to that she was the Workers’ Compensation Administrator for a large self insured South Carolina municipality.  It was there that Janeen first became involved with the SC Self Insurers Association (now known as the SC Employer’s Advocacy Association).  She’s a past president of the SCSIA and served on the Board for a number of years.

Jerry Crolley
 

Jerry Crolley is the Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist for Freeman Boatworks.  Jerry has more than 20 years of experience managing and monitoring safety programs, company policies and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Additionally, Jerry oversees all safety training, injury investigations and manages the return-to-work program. Jerry is certified by the National Association of Safety Professional.

Nichole R. Dunmeyer

​

Nichole R. Dunmeyer, SHRM-SCP, is the Director of Human Resources for Charleston Water System in Charleston. She is a licensed insurance adjuster in the state of South Carolina. She graduated from the University of South Carolina and the University of Charleston with a Masters of Public Administration degree. She also holds a Bachelor degree in Political Science from the College of Charleston.

Anna Fleming

Anna Fleming is the Director of Employee Health and Wellness for Prisma Health.  She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Clemson University and has worked with Prisma Health since 2004.

Denise Godwin

 

Denise Godwin, CPCU, CWCC, CPIW is a Risk Engineer for BMW Manufacturing. Denise holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Workers’ Comp Counselor (CWCC) and the Certified Professional Insurance Woman (CPIW) designations. She is a member of the International Association of Insurance Professionals, CPCU Society and Risk Management Society. Ms. Godwin has served as President, Vice President, Secretary & Treasure of the Western Carolina RIMS Chapter. She has served on the Board of the SC Workers’ Comp. Education Association. She is currently President of the Upstate CPCU chapter. She was named the International Speaker  off winner of a competition at the IAIP International Confidence While Communicating in Dallas Texas.  She serves on the board of directors of The Presentation Literacy Initiative Foundation. Ms. Godwin holds an associate degree in General Education from Emmanuel College, a Bachelor of Arts from Holmes Bible College and an associate degree in General Insurance from the Institutes.

B. Gibbs Leaphart, Jr.

​

Gibbs focuses his practice in the area of workers’ compensation defense. Since 2005, Gibbs has represented employers, carriers, and self-insured employers. He has practiced before the state trial courts, appellate courts, and South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission. In addition to being a board member of the South Carolina Employers Advocacy Association, he is a member of the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Educational Association and the National Workers’ Compensation Defense Network. Gibbs receive his BA from Wofford College and was awarded his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

H. Demetrius Rumph

​

Demetrius is the Director of Safety and Risk Management, Human Resource Department/Safety & Risk Management for the City of Columbia. He began his career in the military where he served as an Air Traffic Controller Operator in the United States Air Force, specializing in vital services in assisting civilian and military aircraft to avoid collisions, maintain safe aircraft separation during flight, maintain flight safety, airport ground operations. Following his military career, Demetrius worked in the manufacturing industry in various roles such as Safety Coordinator, Safety Advisor, Health & Safety Coordinator, Health & Safety Manager and Regional Environmental, Health & Safety Manager. During his tenure working in the manufacturing industry& public sector, he was responsible for the occupational, safety, health and risk management programs/processes for all his facilities.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Business Management and Psychology from the University of South Carolina and numerous certifications.
